# Skills & Knowledge Sources

Supercharge your AI Teammate with specialized procedural skills from the library and ground their responses in proprietary company documents.

To make your AI Teammate a true domain expert, Diaflow separates capabilities into two powerful pillars:

* **Skills (*****How to do it*****):** Modular procedural workflows that teach your Teammate how to perform specialized tasks (e.g., writing newsletters, converting HTML to video, or analyzing data pipelines).
* **Knowledge Sources (*****What they know*****):** Proprietary business documents and data files your Teammate references to deliver company-accurate answers with zero guesswork.

## Skills: Equipping Specialized Superpowers <a href="#user-content-1-skills-equipping-specialized-superpowers" id="user-content-1-skills-equipping-specialized-superpowers"></a>

Navigate to **Settings `⚙️` → Skills** to view all active capabilities assigned to your Teammate.

Click the **`+` (Add)** button in the Skills header to add new capabilities via four flexible methods:

| Method | Description | Best Used For |
| --------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Library** | Browse the official catalog categorized by domain (*Marketing, Data/Analytics, Media*). Includes tabs for **Diaflow & Partners**, **Organization** (company-wide skills), and **Personal**. | One-click installation of verified, production-ready workflows. |
| **Upload (.zip / .md)** | Upload an existing packaged skill archive (`.zip`) or a single markdown file (`SKILL.md`). | Importing team-shared skills or exporting skills between workspaces. |
| **Generate a skill** | Describe the capability you need in natural language, and Diaflow AI will automatically author the full skill specification for you. | Rapidly creating tailored workflows without writing documentation templates. |
| **Manually create a skill** | Directly configure the skill’s `Name`, `Description`, and structured `SKILL.md` rules (Trigger Scenarios, Step-by-step logic, and Output Formats). | Technical leads and power users requiring exact procedural enforcement. |

## Knowledge Sources: Grounding with Internal Documents <a href="#user-content-2-knowledge-sources-grounding-with-internal-documents" id="user-content-2-knowledge-sources-grounding-with-internal-documents"></a>

While Skills define *actions*, **Knowledge Sources** provide *facts*. By uploading internal documents, your Teammate can answer questions, cite data, and verify compliance directly against your organization's truth.

**How to Add Knowledge:**

1. Open **Settings `⚙️` → Knowledge Sources**.
2. Click the green **`+` (Add)** button to upload files or organize them into folders (e.g., `📁 Product Docs`, `📁 Brand Guidelines`, `📁 Data Dictionaries`).
3. **Supported Formats:** PDF, DOCX, TXT, CSV, and Markdown (`.md`).

**How Teammates Use Knowledge:**

* **Zero Hallucination:** When asked about proprietary company topics, the Teammate automatically searches your knowledge files first before formulating a response.
* **Semantic Retrieval:** You don't need to name the exact document; the Teammate understands context and pulls relevant paragraphs automatically.
* **Auditable Citations:** Information derived from internal files can be verified against your original documents at any time.

## Understanding the Hierarchy: Instructions vs Skills vs Knowledge

To keep your Teammate's configuration clean, use this quick rule of thumb:

| Component | Question It Answers | Example |
| --------------------- | ------------------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Instructions** | *"Who are you and how do you behave?"* | Role, communication tone, ethical guardrails, and core operating principles. |
| **Skills** | *"What specialized task can you execute?"* | Converting raw data into executive presentation decks, generating weekly newsletters. |
| **Knowledge Sources** | *"What internal data can you reference?"* | Q3 Financial Reports, Company HR Policies, Technical Architecture Specs. |
