Hiring & Creating a Teammate

Add AI coworkers to your workspace by describing your needs to AI, selecting pre-built specialists from the Talent Pool, or manually building a custom Teammate.

Diaflow provides three flexible ways to bring an AI Teammate into your organization:

  1. Generate with AI (Prompt or Template): Describe the role in natural language or pick a template, and Diaflow will generate the candidate for you.

  2. Hire from the Talent Pool: Onboard pre-configured specialists (e.g., Marketing, Security, Legal) with a single click.

  3. Build Your Own: Manually create a Teammate with a custom name, job title, and avatar.

How to Generate:

  1. Click the + Hire button on your main Teammates page.

  2. In the top prompt bar, choose one of two options:

    • Custom Prompt: Type your specific requirements into the input field (e.g., "A marketing teammate who handles analytics, content, competitor research, and posts to Slack").

    • Use a Template: Click the Template ▾ button, select your department (e.g., Marketing), and choose a pre-configured template such as Content Review Scheduler, Campaign Asset Organizer, or Social Content Assistant. This will automatically fill the prompt bar for you.

  3. Click the Up Arrow icon ↑ (or press Enter) to let Diaflow generate your new Teammate.

  4. Complete the Tool Connection Step or click Connect later.

Hire from the Talent Pool

If you prefer pre-built specialists with verified skill sets, choose from the Talent Pool section below the prompt bar:

  • Browse Candidates: Scroll through role cards (e.g., Nora – Brand PR & Corporate Comms, Ethan – Cybersecurity & SecOps Analyst, Sophia – Solutions Architect).

  • Review Integrations: See which connected apps the Teammate is designed to use (Gmail, Slack, Jira, Notion).

  • Onboard: Click Onboard to proceed directly to the tool connection step, or click View profile to inspect detailed capability notes.

💡 Connecting Tools During Onboarding

Immediately after generating or onboarding a Teammate, an onboarding dialog will prompt you to connect their required tools:

  • Connect Tools: Click + next to any service (e.g., Slack, Notion, LinkedIn, Gmail) to authenticate and review granular permissions (Actions & Permissions).

  • Connect Later: You do not need to connect all tools right away. Click Connect later at the bottom to jump straight into chat. You can always connect tools anytime via Teammate Settings → Connectors.

Build Your Own Teammate (Manual Setup)

If you want complete manual control over identity from the ground up:

Step-by-Step Guide:

  1. In the hiring modal, click the dark Build your own teammate → button in the top-right corner.

  2. In the dialog that appears:

    • Name: Enter a name for your AI coworker (e.g., Kim, Alex).

    • Title: Specify their role (e.g., Financial Manager, QA Triage Lead).

    • Avatar: Select an illustrated persona from the avatar gallery, or click the Upload icon ↑ to use a custom profile picture.

  3. Click Create.

Your new Teammate will be created immediately and added to your Teammates directory.

Note on Advanced Configuration: When building your own teammate, you only need to provide their basic identity details at this step. Advanced capabilities - such as installing Skills, connecting App Connectors, setting behavioral Instructions, and creating Quick Tasks - are configured afterwards inside the Teammate Settings modal.

Next steps

Now that your Teammate is part of your workspace, learn how to collaborate with them:

  • Chat & Daily Work: Learn how to assign tasks, use Quick Task shortcuts, and manage generated artifacts.

  • Teammate Settings: Fine-tune instructions, reasoning levels, and third-party app connections.
